you can look for free on ancestry BMD index http://www(.)ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx remove brackets Jeanette if any 1/4's missing more than likly mistranscribed go to one that is there click on it then click on year at top of page then 1/4 missing then letter then just go through image pages until you get to right one

You best bet would be to search the BMD indces on ancestry, they are generaly complete but with some mistranscriptions.

Assuming that you have found the Ancestry page OK with the 1837 - 1983 BMD Indexes (BETA) on it. Choose Birth Death or Marriage Put in the person's name and likely year of birth, death or marriage. The results show the four quarters and surname at the beginning of the page and surname at the end of the page, so from this you can estimate if your person's surname is likely to appear on this page. If so, you just click on the image viewing page which has a little blue magnifying glass on a sheet of text icon (at the end of each result). You will then be taken to the page and you will see surnames in alphabetical order. Look for your person. There are plenty of navigation tools to take you forward or back if you are just a page out. Back and Forward Arrows plus magnification. You can also save the image to your PC if you wish to do so. At the very top of the image viewing screen, you will see something like this: You are here: Search England & Wales, Birth Index: 1837-1983 (Beta) 1952 Jan-Feb-Mar K You can click into the part that says Jan-Feb-March (on the screen in question) and search through the whole of the K's for January February March if your page seems to be missing. Hope this helps. Cheers, Horatia PS Now people can search for themselves for free it is a great bonus!

This looks like the marriage (you must have Lily's middle name wrong - perhaps May was short for someting beginning with E) :- Marriage Lily E. Woods to Percy G. Mitchell Dec. qtr. 1930, Luton, 3b, 984 Kath. x
