I have looked up a marriage of George Moss to Mary Ann Fish 4a 818 Ipswich 1852 and on looking it states his name as George Nice? Moss - could someone have a look and see if thats what you make it. If this is correct what would the Nice stand for? Linda |

Hi Lin I would guess that the transcriber wasn't sure if it actually said Nice as it has been entered twice, once with a ? by the side of it. Just going to look at the image and see if I can decipher it..........but don't hold your breath! lol |

It looks like Nice to me on the image. Perhaps it was a surname of an ancestor, that they wanted to use as his middle name. Lots of my lot have surnames of grandmother's etc. as middle names. Kath. x |

Yes it looks like Nice to me too Kath. The transcriber was probably doubtful as it is an unusual name |

I agree that it says Nice. I have come acroos unusual middle names too, some completely out of the blue like my distant rellie Porter Hero Aylmore. No other heroes anywhere that I can see! Maybe George's Mum thought he was a 'nice' baby? lol Liz x |

Liz Perhaps he was a cutie? :) Have seen middle names of Darling or Loving - mind you compared to some of the names of today quite tame. Lin |
