Someone has sent me a Gedcom file, which is quite large. Is there a way to Merge this file with my own, without having to type it all manually? any instructions would be great! Thanks

Ron

Before you merge any file with yours I would check it to make sure that merging is really what you want to do. Open the gedcom in FTM, right click on the gedcom file and select Open With, then select FTM from the list, give it a name that's different to your own main file and save it to a location on your PC'. Check it to make sure that you want to merge it with your file. If you do then follow these steps. Close FTM, open the largest file, either yours or the new one you have created, go to file, Append/Merge Family File, navigate to the other file you want to merge and follow the instructions. You will get a list of all the people in the file that you may want to merge into the file that you have open, you will have to click on the little arrow > to move the people in the left list to a list on the right, keep following the instructions. I have created a website that gives more detailed instructions on how to split and merge family tree maker files and you can see the website here. http://tinyurl(.)com/a5t8v As usual remove the brackets.
