If 1939 is your info cut-off, then you really might have a problem, since it coincides with the start of WW2... evacuation, bombing, joining up, as well as the regular moving, marrying, dying. If I fall over anything useful, I'll try to remember who was looking for it! Christine

Thanks Christine...as far as l know, she was born 12th January 1913.....and l don't know if she remained single or moved to Bristol. Her informant could have given the wrong birth date l suppose. l have her birth certificate....but after 1939 she became a mystery....and up until then she was still in Islington. Maureen

If she's the one registered 1913 March Qtr, mother's maiden-name NELSON, then the one I found isn't any use - born too late. Christine

Any reason to suppose she remained unmarried and moved to Bristol (or lived there anyway?)? You only give a birth-year, without saying how you got it. If it's calculated from another date minus age-at-the-time, then it could mean 1912-1913. Anyway, I had a look on Ancestry... Name: Mary Elizabeth Ayres Death Year: 1994 Age: 81 Birth Date: 24 May 1913 Death Registration Month/Year: Aug 1994 Registration District: Bristol Inferred County: Avon Inferred Country: England Register Number: A22C Entry number: 168 Christine

Well if she was born 1913 she could conceivably still be alive. She may have died without marrying, but if she did marry, she could quite possibly have divorced and remarried, so looking for a death cert would be difficult as you won't know which surname. But looking for a marriage is a problem too, unless you have an idea of the groom's name or where the marriage took place, or any children of the marriage. 20th century bmds will be difficult until Freebmd has transcribed the lot (which won't happen next week!) and we can use computer searches instead of having to trawl through every quarter of every year in the laborious way we do now. nell

l have been trying to find a wedding or death certificate for a Mary Elizabeth Ayres born in 1913 in Islington. l have trawled through 5 years, but knowing nothing about her it could be very expensive. Any quick ideas from anyone would be appreciated Thanks Maureen
