Here is my dilemma... I have John Mark born around 1811 in Cumberland on the 1841 census along with his wife Elizabeth and children Joseph b1832 Margaret b1834 Mark b1837 John b1838 They are living in Brampton and all the children have been born there. John and Elizabeth had another child Robert Mark in 1844. Elizabeth died in 1846. John Mark (junior) went on to marry Margaret Batey in Brampton in 1863. Margaret was from Solport Cumberland. The only member of the family that I have managed to locate on both the 51 and 61 census is Joseph. No other members of the family seen to exist even though I know that John senior and John Junior were both definately living. I do not think that they left the area.... whats the chances of them not being on either census at all? It's driving me nuts.... Hope you can help. Kx

Alice - yes they did... I don't think he survived though. John Jnr went on to have a son also Mark Mark b1881 he was my gggrandfather! Elaine - John Jnr gives his birthplace on all future census's as Brampton. I have seen the family on the 51 you have noted and I can't claim them as mine as thre is no william on the 41 census and John Senior's occupation on John Jnr's marraige cert and 41 census states that he is a Cooper. I thought that they were mine when I first saw them....

Just thinking.... a Cooper is not the same as a Ropemaker is it?? Clutching at straws I know but desperate to find out where they are. Kx

I 'lost' two lots of my family for two census each, my Onions were mistranscribed as Aunions and Amons and my Tatlocks were Tetlow and Sukock although there was a James Tatlock brother living at the same address. thanks to the lovely people on the tips board I have found both families, try just a first name area and date of birth, or different spellings!! frustrating I know. From a slightly different angle, You say Mark mark may have died, but John mark Jnr deffo didnt as he was your GGGrandfather, with a Mark Mark, of his own were are they in 1901, can we try backwards and try and meet in the middle?
