Was browsing through the ''local'' list of BMD sites and noticed the new NE Gateway logo - and then spotted a Sunderland site: http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/pages/registrars/ More in a Reply...

Most of my father's relatives are from Sunderland; I've already found it useful. Thanks!

I love these local sites - just sad it ain't one of my own - but glad someone is finding it useful. Thought this message would serve to nudge for people in a different time-zone (or with a different internal clock!) Christine

Quite a lot of the local BMD sites tell you which Church. Certainly that's true of the first set in the list. I hadn't particularly thought you might be able to deduce the church from the reference, but I suppose it should be possible. Christine

Hi Christine. I can't thank you enough for posting this!!!!!!!!! I have been searching for a marriage cert for one set of gr-gr-grandparents for over 2yrs! She had been married before, and her 1st husband went to Australia, never to return. I've searched & searched, using both her maiden name and first married name (of which there are many spelling variations) all to no avail. Decided quite some time ago, that she never legally married my gr-gr-granda. Imagine my surprise, when I casually put his name in to search, found his name clicked on 'spouse' and their she is!!!!!!!!! Her surname is so badly mis-spelled it's no wonder I've never found it! THANK YOU. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Debbie

I too am from the Sunderland area. Any Dixons, Laings. Hiles?. As yet have not made any real headway in this department. Love to hear from yanyone. Us Macams should stick together even if Sunderland are likely to be relegated again at the end of the season. lol

Deborah. That's REALLY pleasing to know. Thank you so much for sharing your good news. Have you told the site about the mis-transcription? You never know - there may be someone else having the same problem, or it may help them recognise other errors if they have a ''definitie'' for one tricky one. I reported an error like that to ?Lancs BMD (I think it was) and they were were very pleased to go back and check and put it right. Maybe the original handwriting wasn't very clear. My own marriage record in GRO is adrift because they couldn't read my father's florid script. Whether they'll put it right I don't know. They haven't acknowledged it yet! Christine

Hi Christine, No - I hadn't thought about that! Was so elated at finding, rushed straight off to order the cert. Then went to bed with a silly grin on my face! (This was about 2am this morning) Good idea though. I'll have a look and see if there is a link somewhere to advise them of transcription errors. Debbie
