I've started to do lookups for people and as part of that I'm writing down all occurances of the surnames of the people I've been asked to find in a specific area over a specific period in case it wil provide extra information. Therefore I'm ending up with various parish register transcripts that could be useful to other people. Is it possible to find a way of putting these online without creating a new website from scratch in a format that is searchable? I'm not crazy about running my own website, but would like to find a way of adding bits and pieces as I do lookups that might help others. Has anyone any ideas? |

Perhaps you could enter your information on the freeREG site that will be like freebmd when it gets up and running or perhaps you could add your name to the free look-up pages for the county or join the online parish clerk scheme. Heather |

Heather - Thanks for the ideas. I decided not to join any long running schemes as I'll only have access to these records for a few more months as they'll be returned to the brand new record office when it opens (which I won't be able to get to!). I really just wanted to find somewhere I could type up the info I'd found so people could have access to it. At the moment I'm putting it all on a PAF file so at least its somewhere! Thanks again. |

Have you seen Nichola's message on Records Board ? There's a site where you can enter your info. Heather |

What a brilliant idea. When you think about all the thousands of looks ups done on here by kind peeps, there should be a way of utilising all the info. |

Well if anyone fancies setting up a basic website that could be searchable I'd contribute! So far the ones I've looked at are message boards and searching them is a nightmare! |

UKBDM (letter-sequence is critical!) was set up as a place to record info from certs, with the option of making them available for sale if you wished. It started out free, but was so successful that it got overloaded. The webmaster then took a straw poll amongst those who took the effort to reply as to whether people would rather have a free site that crashed and probably couldn't take much more data, or would pay a smallish annual amount (e.g. £5) to cover the cost of a proper webspace. Most people must have opted to pay for a better site - but then some people took umbrage at having to pay I reckon it's good site now. Christine |
