I need to search through the Register of baptisms solemised at Queen Charlotte's Hospital and wondered if anyone who has been to the LMS before could tell me what to expect when I get there? I have a reference number relating to baptisms between July 1914 and June 1916 (which should cover May 1916 hopefully?). Would I be looking for an entry, or copy of the certificate, is it on microfich, and what info is usually contained on a baptism cert??? Would be interested to know what you guys have found in the past. Also, there is a Confirmation Register also - has anyone looked at this before please? I believe my relative was confirmed (possibly at the hospital) but didn't think babies were confirmed. I'm a bit of a novice and you guys are always so helpful and knowledgeable about these things! kind regards, Linda |

some books have been filmed so you can only look at them on film. The help desk will help you locate the film you want. You can get teh number for the film from the LMA website in advance. However if the book you want hasn't been filmed, then you need to order it and they come in batches every 20 mins. When you search in the LMA website, it tells you if the books you want are filmed or not, and if they are viewable, some books aren't viewable due to the fragile state they are in. For a bapt record, you get the childs name, and sometimes, both the parents and an address, the address might be vague like one of my marriages, simply said the St Geo in the EAst!!! You might get a DOB if the vicar was feeling kind !!! And would advise if you're going on a Saturday go early, the readers get busy. |

Dear Jill and Shelli thanks for your advice - I will try and make a visit during a weekday (quite a trek from here but should be good day out). As there was only a mother named on the birth cert I was hoping the baptism cert. might give me a little more to go on, especially as I cannot find the mother anywhere! I guess it would be helpful if I had even a dob for her but I don't. |
