Sally Normally, to export your tree, you click on the ''Import/export tree'' link which is on the left-hand side of this page. Unfortunately though this currently comes up with a message explaining that the Export feature has been disabled, pending ''improvements'' - so I guess that if GR is the only place that you have your data, you're stuck!! At least I suppose that it's an acknowledgement by GR that their system needs improving... will wait and see what they provide when it is upgraded. Also, it should ring alarm bells to anyone who keeps their tree on GR and nowhere else - you have placed all your precious data in the hands of someone else, with no guarantees that it will be maintained by them forever. This site could disappear at any time - DO PLEASE ALL BACK UP YOUR DATA, somewhere, somehow!! Richard

Great! Have now downloaded the LDS programme as recommended. How do I export to it- or do I have to patch everyone over manually? Many thanks

Sally Its the mormon latter day saints site. The one with the free 1881 census and some filmed parish records http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp You should see an order/download products tab from where you can download a copy of there family tree file. Jacqui

Sally this happened to me when I uploaded my Gedcom from FTM. Fathers becoming sons etc etc a real muddle. They had changed the system.. Previously, you had to delete your tree on here before importing. Now we do not have to delete it, GR justs updates from your gedcom. However after trying several times to upload my tree this new way without first deleting, I got so frustrated , I deleted my tree and uploaded again, Perfect, no problems at all. Try deleting your tree first, it worked for me. Kat

Exporting sounds sensible. Whats the LDS site? I'm new to this so havent found all the options yet

Sally If you have your tree on a programme off site you could just re import from there to here. Or if you havent got one download the free one from the LDS site. Export your tree from here make the changes and then re import. Hope that made sense Jacqui

So I'd need to delete from me upwards? Aargh! Its more that the whole person has shifted, so the wife is floating in midair- unless you click on her then it looks ok except for the double son. All very strange

No more sons you need to add i suppose, or you could just change the name, its delete fom the bottom up then....or call him Son Extra in the name space and know his is fictitious

For some reason one of my ancestors has 'shifted himself' into the wrong place. He's now showing up as his own son, and nothing I do will allow me to move him back again. I' could happily delete out that branch and retype it, but I can't delete a parent with children, nor can I delete a child with parents, so I'm stuck! How do I sort this one out? (preferably whilst I can still remember what it should all look like)
