This may be completely on the wrong tack but there is an Alice DAVIS b1896, Greenwich, living as 'Nurse Child' with Elizabeth Jewson, a widow in Lewisham. Davis could have been the enumerator's interpretation of Divers. Liz

I have just searched Ancestry for you but can find nothing on 1901 census. I found three deaths for Emily Divers: Catherine Emily Diver, 1901 Lancs, Emily Honor Diver, 1880 North Suffolk, Emily Louisa Diver , 1904, London, Middlesex. Searching the births for Alice only found two on Ancestry: Alice Maud Diver, 1895, Sep, Volume 1d, Page 578n, Wandsworth Margaret Alice Diver, Dec 1894, Haslingden, Lancs. Volume 8e, Page 84. Will keep on searching for you. Elizabeth

But if you want to look at the address on the 1901 census, Mandy, you just have to buy credits and put the info I said before into the address search. Why on earth their search program can't tell that St and Street match each other I do not know! Also, bear in mind that the mother - Emily, was it? - could be married by 1901 and so have a different surname. Kate.

Might be worth keeping this info for a later date, just incase..........Emily has an older sister Alice. Can't find them in 1901 at the moment to see where they are living. 1891. Sorry, I misread the original message! Yes, the address is available, but you can only access it easily through the Nat Archives version of the 1901 census and I don't have a sub to that site anymore. Do you think it possible that Alice was already with her ''adoptive'' family by 1901? Even if she used her mother's surname later, she might be indexed under the other family's surname........Don't suppose you know who it was who brought her up? Merry

Try putting the address 29 Oscar St and the place keyword as Deptford and it will find it, and it says it is occupied. Address Administrative County Civil Parish Ecclesiastical Parish Parliamentary Borough Rural District Municipal Borough Municipal Ward 29 Oscar St Y London St Paul Deptford St John Deptford Deptford Deptford South East Ward Kate.

The 1901 census is fully transcribed, but there are lots of transcription errors! Very few people stayed at the same address for long in those days, esp in heavily populated areas............You would have been very luky to have found one of your family at the same place after five years. Am having a look now.................... Was the mum described as a domestic servant, or something else, or nothing? Merry

I'm trying to trace my grandparents history. My Nan's name was Alice Divers and she was born in 1896, her mother's name was Emily Divers (I have the birth certificate), but no father's name. The address was 29 Oscar Street, Deptford (Parish: Greenwich). I believe she was later adopted. I have tried the census and cannot get anything for this address and its occupants in 1901. Is the Census completely up to date or is it added to continually with new information? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
