Hi Could someone help me please? I've found a possible death entry of someone I've been looking for. The death entry in Sept qtr 1950 was registered in Northumberland S. The lady I'm looking for was buried in Preston Cemetery, North Shields. Would North Shields come under the reg district of Northumberland S? I dont know when she died - I was told sometime in the 1940's, but have gone through all the deaths, and can only find this entry in 1950. Am hoping she is the one! Jan |

Oh and remember where people died isn't necessarily where they are buried and conversely where people are buried isn't necessarily where they died. nell |

Thanks Nell. Think this is a tough one to crack for me, as I have no idea where she died! I was hoping that it would be the same town as she is buried in, but have no idea! I'll have to work on this one a bit more! Thanks for your help. Jan |

Northumberland South was a sub district of Tynemouth. It is now divided between North Tyneside and Northumberland Central |

Found this by googling:- 'Wallsend formed a large part of the Northumberland South registration district, along with Whitley Bay and parts of Northumberland immediately to the west of Newcastle, such as Newburn. We hold some of these records'. Wallsend and North Shields aren't that far apart, so probably North Shields would be covered by Northumberland S. Kath. x |

My stamping ground. North SHields was part of Northumberland and Preston Cemetary is the main cemetary for the area. It is on Preston Road and is very well kept, so if you need to go and look, you should be able to find the grave. I will be there in a couple of week stime, so if you want me to make some enqs and take a photo of the headstone, let me know. Ian |

Hi David and Kath Thanks very much for the info. It sounds hopeful as I do know that the lady in question used to live and work at Whitley Bay at one time. Thanks again. Jan |

Hi Ian Thanks very much for your kind offer to make enquries for me. Not sure whether to take you up on your offer, as it is a bit complicated. The lady I'm looking for was called Isabella ELMS (or Bella) She was born in 1876 and never married. An older relative tells me that she died sometime in the 1940's but couldnt tell me exactly when. He was definite that she is buried in Preston Cemetery in North Shields. She used to be a housekeeper for someone in Whitley Bay. I've looked through all the deaths on 1837 site, started at 1940 and finished at 1950 and I'm not confident that I have found her death entry really. The death entry I found is of a different christian name;- Calia (or Celia) ELMS aged 73 died Sept qtr 1950 registered at Northumberland S I suppose I'm wondering if this lady is my Isabella ( Bella) but with a different name!! :-) (clutching at straws) She is the same age as my Isabella, and could be in the right registration district. Just wondering if there is a cemetery burial list at Preston Cemetery that you could look at please? I'm going out for the day now, so I will read any messages when I get home early evening. Thanks for any advice or help that you are able to give me. Jan |
