Hi Phoenix Trouble is, I cant help but think this is my man!!! I did wonder if the deeds might be in Devon as the BS was from that neck of the woods..lol But then again, I dont supposed mortgages worked the way they do now in 1867???? Bev X |

Um, I know that my geography is crap, but isn't Altricham in Cheshire? If that is so, you spookily have two Richard Ashtons connected with Cross Street, but in quite different parts of the country. I think this is called coincidence (though I did once trip over an Elias Turner, blacksmith when looking for someone else, in an entirely different county, who did turn out to be my man). |

I have just realised that my Richard Ashton, who lived at Cross Street in 1891 and 1901 was in Altrincham!!! Any ideas why there would be details of this in Devon??? Or is this a completely different Richard Ashton??? The plot thickens!!! I can't believe that there would be two Richard Ashtons who would both be Butchers!!!LOL Bev X |

Have you tried searching on A2A? Lots of Devon deeds are catalogued there. Usually they are held in the Devon Record Office, in Exeter, but they might be in the North Devon Record Office. |

Dea Sorry I didn't make myself clear:-( It's the deeds that I am interested in for the mortgage for Cross Street. Even on Genuki, it is not clear who is responsible for the info as there is one name at the top and another at the end of the piece and no contact info:-( Regards Bev X |

You would have to contact the person who compiled the list - it says at the top they are taken from various sources. Ian |
