Married twice?

I was doing a bit of checking on the IGI and came across the marriage of Henry Tatam to Mary Patrick on 24th March 1821 at St Margarets, Leicester, and then the same two people on 9th April 1821 at St Michaels, Stamford. They are both extracted entries. Henry was born and died in Stamford but I am unsure where Mary came from, there is the birth of a Mary Patrick in Stamford of about the correct age and I had assumed it was her. Further checking has shown a Mary Patrick christened at St Margarets, Leicester, so maybe that is her. That Mary is about 4 years older than Henry though. Has anyone come across this before? Would a marriage blessing in his home church be in the register as a marriage?? Christine in NZ

Some registers are combined banns and marriage registers. It may be that the first entry represents the first calling of the banns and the second (which falls after the banns have been called three times) represents the actual marriage. It would definitely be worth your while to get copies of both, which should hopefully show that the partners came from different parishes.
