Is it the one born 1874 who is on the 1901 census? If it's possible he died before 1920 you could try Family Relatives (pay per view) (you might need to try Henry as well as Harry). FR has all the BMD reg's transcribed 1866-1920, so it would probably be only two lookups on that site (should cost under 50p altogether!). If it turns out to be after 1920, then I think it would be a case of trawling through the indexes, Q by Q, on 1837online or Family Relatives :O(( Merry |

Not sure what you mean. All deaths should be registered. A suicide might also have an inquest. It would probably be reported in the local papers. nell |

Do you have his son's marriage certificate? Does that state whether Henry is deceased? There will be a death certificate, and probably a report in the local paper, but Henry could have died anywhere between 1901 and 1950. If Ancestry is producing online indexes for bmd which cover this period, then it may be worth waiting until that service is available (next week, they say!) If not, it is a matter of plodding through indexes, either using 1837online or going to a library to consult them on fiche. One way is expensive, the other time consuming. |

Death certificates for suicides are the same as any other death cert - save for the reason which will say something like 'Did take his own life' this following coroners involvement to prove the action. However if for example a person decides to take their life and the body is unidentifyable, there is a real problem , I am sure in the future DNA records will help, but past suicides of this type are an obvious problem for genealogists. My GGF committed suicide - his death cert says Hanged himself whilst of unsound mind. The one thing you can look out for is the inquest details. Not a lot survive but you may find the inquest written up in the local paper. |

My grandfather committed suicide in 1956. The death cert indicates suicide and says 'P.M.' which I presume means that a post-mortem was carried out?? Also gives the date of inquest and coroner's name in the Informant's column. |

Yes, PM means Post Mortem. In every case of suicide or suspected suicide, a PM will always be carried out. Ian |
