Have you tried looking in an Historical Directory for the year in question? Some are one line (google Historical Directories, I can't remember the address!) others are held at the Records Offices. Sam x

I got the info from the historical directories, but it just has the address, not the name of the pub, but also i have a photo of him outside one of his pubs, and on the side of the pub it says lord street, and also the name of the pub, i have just found out that lord street is just off city road, so the photo of him outside the pub, must be the one on city road!! yey!! i just need to find the other one on chester road now!! I like the historical directories!! i'm always on that page!!! Alison

Using my tip on Family Search Org-I have found pubs, factorys, schools, churches, and yes beer sellers-give it a go-and not forgetting quite a few rellies as well.

Hi Alison, look on the Manchester & Lancashire FHS web page (address listed above under M&LFHS etc) Click on the Bookshop on the left and search under letter P for Public Houses. There are lots of books relating to them. If you are a member (and if not, why not?) give them a ring any morning except Wednesday and Saturday and ask for details on how to buy it. Vera

Licensed victuallers had to apply to have a license granted and then renewed, so records would be in the relevant records office. nell
