Thanks to the patience of many on here, I have sent my gedcom to ancestry and Tribal pages,;; now that , thats safe if I put on the new trial version of FTM 2006 and I dont like it;;; when I reload 2005 can I send the gedcom back to my 2005 from ancestry ect;; Hope you understand that;; Babs HEATHER help I have done homepage but it has done a internet tree update and all living rellis are or it even kids sob sob How do I delete it

Thanks Alan thats what I hoped, on the FTM 2006 it uses a dif; format to 2005 and changes the way the data is stored so if you go back to 2005 later it cannot read the data from 2006 , so is good that gedcom does not alter , that means I would be able to put back on the 2005 program if I wanted to revert back;; which I'm hoping I wont want to but just incase Many thanks Babs

And dont forget you can send your whole tree to your own family web page just by clicking on the Internet Option tab and then on the create homepage. It really is very easy. And you will have it safe somewhere other than your computer and a disc. I update my homepage every time I add a few bits on my program. Plus you get people contacting you about it when they have googled a surname.

Heather thats good, so when you say send you mean from the FTM or gedcom;; I know you have 2006 is it better than the 2005 or isnt there much in it dif. wise Babs

Babs, very little difference to be honest and I sent my stuff to a homepage with 2005. Its so easy (I am useless at techi stuff). Click on internet options Click on Create homepage A box will come up inviting you to make your homepage, keep clicking next until you see a little box on the bottom left hand side uploading your stuff to the web. Whilst that is happening they ask you to choose what layout and background and text you want for the homepage of your site. Again, simple, just choose a background ticking a box Choose the layout, ditto Then put on something like Jane Smith's homepage. I have been researching my direct lines of bla bla. I would welcome contacts with any connections or corrections to this information (Well, something like that anyway). Dont give you full addy, just an email addy - I chose my h*t mail one because they screen spam so well. Then a few weeks later, do a google search of one of your more unusual surnames and up will come your homepage for all the world to see! Do privatise it when you are clicking the next bits as you dont want them knowing about your living family. You can click on your Internet and view homepage anytime to check it out yourself immediately you have uploaded. They also give you a mailing list box so you can send it all to friends and family to look at. Do add as many photos as you can etc. As I said it will be available to you and your chosen people immediately but some weeks before it goes public, which is good as it gives you time to alter bits or censor bits.

Yes Im sure you could do books and stuff with the FT2005. If you go to the website my-history they tell you what the difference is between all the versions. They give you the blurb that comes with the FT2006 and then say, 'But those who have 2005 will probably notice very little difference!' Do let me know when you have done your web page. You can add me to your initial posting list! Its a good idea that at least they dont display it on the www until a few weeks later.

Heather will do if ever I can get my hotmail addy set up;; thought I would make a new name for page and what carry on says MSN does not recognize my .net passport;;; but with ntl would have thought it would have that, unless incredamail have gone onto main provider Babs

Whats up babs? OK, just seen - you forgot to privatise it, yes? Dont panic, its not seen on the web for weeks or unless you tell mates to look at it. Go back to the FTM and do it again but this time click on the option to 'update my homepage'. The box will come up again and you just make sure you privatise it this time!! The box says 'Hide information on living individuals', just click the yes box. DONT PANIC. No one can see it yet.
