Happy new year everybody. I am trying to the family of John Pearsall, born about 1831, in Clerkenwell, Middlesex. He is the only one on my treee not from Birmingham! I have him from 1851 onwards with his wife and children, in Birmingham. But I would really like to find out who his parents were, and where was he before 1851. I keep coming up with a family in 1851, in Clerkenwell, caled Pearsall, but not sure if this is John's family or not, and cannot work out how to find a link. I haven't got 1841 census to see if there is a john living with this family then. The family is (in 1851) Ann Pearsall abt 1810 Town, Huntingdonshire, England Wife Ann Elga Pearsall abt 1840 Clerke, Middlesex, Daughter Esther Pearsall abt 1791 Clerke, Middlesex, Sister Esther Pearsall abt 1846 Clerke, Middlesex, Daughter John Jas Pearsall abt 1801 Clerke, Middlesex, Head Maria Pearsall abt 1843 Clerke, Middlesex, Daughter This is the only family I can find, but can't link my John to them. Can anyone find them in 841? Or can anyone point me in the right direction? Many Thanks Mandy |

You say that you have located your John PEARSALL in the 1851 census with his wife and family in Birmingham. I just had a quick look but couldn't see him. What is the reference number? Have you found his marriage - the certificate would give the name and occupation of his father. I think it is better to find the name of his father first, then with luck find the family in the 1841 census and perhaps a baptism in the IGI. Trying to identify a link to a family who happen to be in the correct geographical location in the 1851census is fraught with problems It may be the right family but it just might not. Pete |

Thank you everyone. That is the right John with his wife Rebecca. And that is Rebecca in 1851 My apologies, I had thoght I had found John with Rebecca in 1851, but must have got confused. So it is John I need to find in 1851, hopfully with his family. Looks like a trip to Birmingham to look at the Parish records for John's and Rebeccas marriage to find his father, am I right? mmmm, need a babysitter first, I live in Swindon!!! Many Thanks |

I would just get the marriage certificate from the GRO rather than trek to Brum! And just cos I'm feeling kind (must be a New Year thing!) here is the reference you need. You can order the marriage cert just on the brides name. Year: 1853 Qtr: Jan-Mar Surname: AMOS Forename: Rebecca District: Birmingham Volume: 6d Page: 12 Here's the website, go get your credit card! http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ Happy New Year Pete |
