Oh thanks to both of you It must be them + I have had a letter from my Uncle this week stating he thought the family came from County Mayo so it confirms that with Bridget's birthplace. Back to delving for some more info now Many thanks again Yvonne

I think Patrick could be right Elaine. I am going to try and see who the other McGarry's could be with him in Cumberland. The James I did look at previously but he was definately born in Macclesfield. Maybe he just said he was born in Ireland? At least now I have some more things to go on & I appreciate your help with this I didn't think I was ever going to find them in 1881 and now I at least have Patrick to study too. Happy New Year and thanks again Yvonne

Earlier I was looking for Michael McGarry I was kindly pointed in the right direction by Merry & Elaine. On rechecking the 1891 I could see a Michael Kearnes and his family - I was excited about this as I realised they were probably Michael McGarry's wife Jane's parents. I then proceeded to check the censuses for previous years - this has been time consuming as you can see below: 1881 Census Michael Cairns Age in 1881: 45 Estimated birth year: abt 1836 Gender: Male Where born: Ireland Address: 3 Willetts Square Civil parish: Burslem County/Island: Staffordshire Condition as to marriage: Married Occupation: Green Grocer Source information: RG11/2712 Registration district: Wolstanton Sub-registration district: Burslem ED, institution, or vessel: 4 Folio: 91 Page: 32 1871 Census Michael Corns Age: 38 Estimated birth year: abt 1833 Where born: Ireland Source information: RG10/2852 Registration district: Wolstanton Sub-registration district: Burslem ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Folio: 30 Page: 7 1861 Census Michael Cornes Age: 28 Estimated birth year: abt 1833 Where born: Ireland Source information: RG9/1929 Registration district: Wolstanton Sub-registration district: Burslem ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Folio: 6 Page: 6 Now guess what I am looking for his marriage to Sarah! I can't seem to find it under any of these names
