Does a time on a birth cert always mean multiple Births? Just recieved two certs which both have a time on. Not the same date but both to the same family. I wasn't aware that either had a twin. Must go back to the drawing board to see if I can find them. I know twins happened in later generations of the family. Jean |

Hi Jean, I don't think it does. I have certificates of twins and yes the time is on them. But I also have a cert from 1838 which shows the time and this wasn't for a twin. Jenny |

No it doesn't......esp if the certs you have are from the early years of civil reg!! The instructions given to registrars was open to misinterpretation so many recorded the times for all births....... You could check the GRO indexes for the same surname on the same page munber, plus previous and next pages....if there are no others with the same surname then your cert is either for a singleton (most likely) or the twin was a stillbirth............ Thanks Jenny and Merry. I did wonder but I am disappointed now !!! Will have to wait until after C'mas to pay for more searches just to make sure. The years were 1841 and 1843. Jean |

Oh Merry, so sorry for your freezer packup. Doesn't it always happen at the wrong moment...!!! I found one of them on BMD and it seems it was a single birth, The other is Ann Whyman born 2nd February 1843, in Huntingdon. I can't find her on BMD. Have to go out now, will check up when I get back. Don't cry Merry, or you will have to change your name. :-) |

Hi Penny, I looked on that website but the only Huntingdon births seem to be more recent dates. I couldn't find the one Whyman on there ,perhaps I wasn't using it properly. I think Huntingdon didn't come under Cambridgeshire back in the early 19th century? These things are sent to try us :-( but thanks for looking. Jean |

I looked on FreeBMD View Images section for Whyman Q1 1843. There was definitely only one for Huntingdon district, so probably not a twin. Thanks for the concern over my freezer!! Hubby rushed out and bought a new one (he can do that, but he can't buy a Christmas card to save his life!) Delivered within about an hour!!! Now we just have to pay for it :O(( Merry |
