Just uploaded my gedcom to GR and got the message I had five illegal free floaters. Where did they come from? |

Ooer! Illegal immigrants sneaking in on your tree! Could it be that you have some people on your gedcom who are not yet connected to the rest of the tree. My tree (on Family Historian) allows me to save details of 'unrelated individuals' and then link them at a later date when I've sorted out where they fit in the family but probably GR won't accept any who are not part of your tree. |

I expect so Judith, I was just hoping it was something more exciting like 5 Albanians or something claiming a relationship. |

Heather, heres me thinking something completely different.Floaters to me are something that refuses to flush down the loo,(No 2s) so to have 5 i thought you must of had an invasion of other peoples floaters sneaking in the back way(no pun intended)silly me!!!!!....MOE! |

But what sort of illegal? Illegal to do what they are doing? Or illegal to possess? Or illegal to sell on ebay? Lol |

You should not have floaters as it is illegal on GR, naughty, naughty - everyone should link to you - (eventually) Seriously though, what I do, using FTM, is to create a kinshiip report for me and export this as a gedcom. This ensure that any floaters, illegal or otherwise are left behind. It also gives you an lement of control over who you export. Not sure if other tree programs support this, but they well might. |

Thanks guys, I think its probably where I have got about 10 James and Sarahs in a row and I have mixed up parents etc and when I corrected that have left some of the offspring floating about without connections. As Ive 600 legal non-floaters I shall wait until I retire to sort out the illegals I think! Thats clever Peter - if I did that I suppose in theory I should be able to spot the floaters? |
