Hi all, Im real frustrated. posted a message looking for my uncle, ROBERT LUNT and get a pm from a lady saying she might be able to help. That was 3 weeks ago, and if you knew how long I hve been looking for any info, no matter how small, well I was thinking its my lucky day when I got her message. I have sent her a pm hoping she will get in touch and give me what info she has, but nothing, havnt heard from her again. UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. TED

This has unfortunately happened to me. I am desperately trying to find out about my grandmother. She died when my dad was only 3 and she was never spoken about after that. I had made contact with a possible connection (it turned out we weren't connected) but as they were still in the same area where my grandmother was born, offered to look in the local church and local records office for any info for me. I PM'd a couple of times for updates, but I have never heard anything back. Very frustrating, I know people are busy but this is months and months ago, Just a quick note to say they either haven't had time or haven't found anything is all I want. I hope you do make contact.

bernice, hi. all my relatives and past family come from the WEST DERBY VILLAGE area of LPOOL. I know about all of them apart from this ROBERT LUNT my uncle. He had 4 brothers and 5 sisters. All his brothers went off to CANADA to join up in the CANADIAN EXP FORCE including himself. They all came back to the UK at the end of the war, apart from him, at least I dont think he did, because I cant find anything about him on the GROs Index, either marriage or death Ive found a ROBERT LUNT born around the same time as him on the SAN FRANSISCO 1920 census return, 1881, he being born in 1882, but thats as far as I can get. his occ given as carpenter house builder, when in england he was a farmer cowman and when he joined the CEF in CANADA he put his occ down as farmer, so im wondering if its one and the same person. One chap emailed me say that he registered for SOCIAL SECURITY in MONTANA USA in 1920, then went back to CANADA where he died and ive been trying to contact him as well to find out where he got the info. But no luck, ive sent him 3 emails but not received a reply. Thats why Im frustrated, well not the only reason, but leave it at that lol. take care TED XX

Hi Ted My grandfather also went off to Canada to join the CEF and returned to England after the war. I have been wondering about why he didnt just join up over here. Do you have any ideas? Hope you get a reply from yout contacts soon - I too know how frustrating it is when you know they have information that could really help. Lyla

Jill, hi. Ive done all that, none of those are mine. He was born 9 feb 1882 and went off to CANADA in 1907. Thats where the trail ends. All his brothers went off to join up over there but they all returned to UK apart from ROBT who probably stayed over there, but Ive yet to find out exactly what happened to him. His sister long since dead had a son and daughter who emigrated to CANADA and Ive asked them if they knew anything about him, and they didnt seem to know anything, I know its strange, they knew about his brothers bsut not about him, wonder if he was a black sheep of the family, you never know do you? So thats it really. Thanks for your message just the same. TED XX

Lyla, hi, they didnt go over there just to join up, I think they went over there because the grass was greener there and when they found wasnt and the war started they had no alternative but to join up, the pay wasnt bad, much better than joining up in ENGLAND and probably had a better chance of survival. I think that was the reason, at least, one of my uncles had a couple of sons and one of them told me that was the case, he has letters from his dad saying that, but also saying that after the war, just like in UK they found it hard to find work and so they drifted back to UK. Thanks Ted, maybe that was the reason. Do you have the discharge papers for your uncle? My grandfather was demobilized in England and it gives his proposed residence after discharge. My grandfather would have been very difficult to trace because he never married grandma. As it is I dont know what he did for those 20 years between the end of the war and when my father was born. I have been in touch with descendants of his brothers and sisters and noone has ever heard of him. Another blacksheep methinks. Good luck anyway Lyla

Lyla, yea theres always one black sheep somewhere, and you never get to the bottom of him or her, always remains a mystery. My relatives in CANADA. Ive just written to them, and asked them to get his records, its much easier for them to get them, firstly because they get them cheaper, its costs more to get a money transfer from a bank her in UK than it does to pay for the records, last time I sent for ROBTS brother CHARLIEs records, they cost £4 put ordering a money order from the bank cost £12, so this time Im hoping my relations will get them, send them on to me and I will send ENGLISH Pounds and he can exchange them in Canada. Hoper you are ready for xmas? and good wishes to you and your family TED XX
