i have discovered by trial and error that ifthe parents are not married both names appear in signature and residence of informant. both names of parents Evelyn Mabel Ray and Frederick Hudson appear in section no 7 under 34 Butler Street.

i have searched for a marraige evelyn under Ray and also Adams to Frederick Hudson but nothing found as yet...the address on mum,s birth cert is 34 Butler Street,moss-side,.Manchester. i also searched for her husbands death before mum,s birth but there was a Frederick Ernest Ray died in 1935 but the age was 20yrs..he would have been 28yrs i did e mail 1837 and ask if the age could be wrong but they said that it was highly unlikley. Frederick Hudson was a labourer..!! so quite common occupation

The trouble is, Edna and Joyce are not very Victorian names, so even if Frederick had given your mum a family name, it is likely to only have appeared in his own generation and therefore prob after 1901. Did Frederick never marry your grandmother?? Do you know anything else about him?? Did he live with your grandmother?? What was his occupation?? What happened to her husband?? Merry

My grandmother was Evelyn Mabel Adams..she married Frederick Ernest Ray in Stafford in 1931..she is Evelyn Mabel Ray (formely Adams) on mum,s birth cert but father is Frederick Hudson. Evelyn is from Stafford but mum was born in Manchester in 1939 evelyn was born26/4/1909...icant find a connection with the name Edna or Joyce through the Adams and thought maybe Frederick gave her a name from his family...

I am searching for a Frederick Hudson.
