Please can someone tell me what details would be on a ww1 medal card. I have done a search on my g grandfather Josiah Pearson and I have come up with 3 Medal cards all with 3 different regiment numbers, I don't know which one is him if any, I'm wondering if there's any other info that might tell me if it's him or not. Thanks, Ria :) |

I could try to look on www.military-genealogy*com as I have a few credits spare but it is mainly soldiers that died that are shown. I can search WW1 and WW2 records by:- Surname Christian Name Initials Place of Birth Place of Residence The more info the better chance of finding something. Lunar |

The medal card might tell you which theatre of war and when your relative entered it. But it might just have very basic information. Bad news about the service records for WW1 is that many of the records were burnt during WW2, so you have about a 1 in 3 chance of finding your chap's. nell |

There's also a possibility that your ancestor may have been wounded, in which case there may be a reference to a Silver War Badge, or SWB,this could be on a seperate card and the records are kept seperate at the Records Office. Dont forget the Medal Cards are only the index, to get more details you have to visit PRO and look up the medal rolls. If you Know your ancestors original service no. then check the cards for that, he may also have been transfered to another Regiment or unit and his service no. changed, it aint easy!!!!!! Len |

Hi Len, it's interesting that you say about his numbers being changed because as I said, there are 3 different numbers. I have been told that his name is on a war memorial in Liverpool town hall, I need to go and have a look to see if the numers matches any I have found in the NA, don't really want to down load all 3, might be spending money I don't need to. I never thought about him being moved thouhg, thanks for that. Ria :) |

Lunar, I have emailed you. nell, thanks, I wouldn't be surprised if my ggrandfathers was destroyed knowing my luck in trying to find out stuff about him. it's taken a year to find his marriage as his and his wife's name were mistranscribed as Eleanor Dudson and Josiah Pease when it should have been Eleanor Doodson and josiah pearson. lol, ho hum. :) Ria |

Ria - send me details - I am at Kew in a couple of weeks and I can access the cards free of charge. I can then send you details of what is on each one ready for the day you establish who belongs to you. Also just incase I have a few moments , tell me where yours came from, dob, nok etc and if I can this visit I'll quickly check the full records. Jan |
