I sent someone an email at the end of May to say I thought we had the same person in our Trees. I have no record of a reply. At the beginning of Sept I sent another message, received a reply by return and asked for their email addy so I could send them a gedcom file. Today, 3 MONTHS later, I got an email out of the blue giving the email addy. I have just written back asking them to remind me what it was I was going to send as I have forgotten. |

Oops... I think it is so rude when people don't reply in a reasonable time. I was always taught to reply as soon as possible. It is so frustrating isn't it? |

Maybe this person isn't on Genes 24 hours a day like us? Perhaps they only check once in a while and also, if they have changed their email addy since registering, they won't get an email reminder either. Sam x |

hi, sometimes i don't get a reply at all, some do reply rather quickly though, but i always mail people back as soon as i get their mail just so they know one way or another, i get an e-mail from genes telling me someone has mailed me. but i do think it is rather ignorant not to reply even if it to tell you there is no link. tracey. |

It is frustrating when people don't reply at all. Makes me wonder why they have posted peoples' names here if they don't want to be contacted about them. I always reply straight away, as I know how important it is for people to at least eliminate you from their enquiries. People have to be the biggest mystery in life. I can only assume they have signed up in the flush of a short-lived interest in their family tree. Sam |

Grampa Don't give up hope! I am one of the guilty parties who sometimes takes ages to reply (although I try not to!) There are two main reasons for this: 1. I work away from home during the week and don't always have either the time or the facility, depending on where I am, to access the net. Even if I do, I don't always have the detailed notes with me to confirm connections. 2. I have over 1400 confirmed rellies on my tree, and as a consequence, get loads of potential matches - its hard to keep up sometimes! I've only today replied properly, after prompting, from someone to whom I sent a holding message (Yes, there's a connection, but I'm not at home and I'll have to check it out and get back to you) on the 3rd of November! I had forgotten about the contact unfortunately, and I'm so glad he persevered, as he and my husband have 3 x great grandparents in common. I'm looking forward to the day (long in the future!) when I can retire and spend all my waking hours on this absorbing hobby!! So don't give up hope - I'm sure people really don't mean to be rude. Kind Regards Ellen. |
