Following someones post re free credits on the above I checked in. Have been on the site before. All of a sudded my norton anti virus started getting excited. Thought I had sorted it, went back into FR and the same thing happened again. The whole thing stuck and would not let me close down my comp. After 4 hrs and a phone call to he who knows, I managed to close via task manager. Anyone else had this problem?

Nope, never From what Ive read on here and on the general board Norton is a problem for many people - often causing freezing probs. Most people on general have dumped Nortons in favour for the free download of avg7 from grisoft.

jeanie, hi, Ive got NORTON and had it for a couple of years and, touch wood, ive had no problems, but then I have the full NORTON INTERNET SECURITY not just the anti virus. It does everything, scans everything before you open it, and if it comes up to something nasty that it cant fix, it quarantines its, puts it somewhere where it cant do any harm. Leave it there for a couple of days, if your pc works OK then you can delete it from the quarantine. If by any chance you do get what you got, then you switch off and bang the disc you got with the system and it will scan everything and clear your pc of all nasties. I wont have anything said about my beloved NORTON. Hows that. TED XX

Norton is well-known for being incompatible with Microsoft XP. Dump it and get one of the ' freebies ' such as AVG or AVAST.

Am afraid i'd dump the norton, mine ran out last week ans i was unable to access any secure websites..not even email! was complete nightmare at the time didnt realize it was the norton causing problems...spent hours talking to differant people only to be told to try renewing norton (which i couldnt do) was then told to remove the norton...hey presto everything works again...ive got windows xp!

Thanks for all the advice. It seems to be working now. I managed to get on the site last night. We used to have the package bought on line but a couple of weeks ago bought it on disc because we now have a lap top. Must say, it does catch viruses, seem to have them in e-mail every day.

Victoria, hi, surely you knew it was about to run out? they let you know at least 4 weeks in advance and its so easy, you can pay by credit card visa card, cheque, or solo or switch. Its much cheaper also if you pay by card and not cheque. once youve paid things carry on as normal. if you let it run out obviously they arent going to protect you. The free ones are very good however, probably as good as NORTON but thats choice. Ive had no problems with them at all. TOUCH WOOD. TED XX

I have Norton Internet & Antivirus, it was already installed on the PC when I got it, and its been fine. (XP) HOWEVER when the sub expired, I found it was cheaper to buy a new program than renew the sub, so I did (I'll do anything to save a few quid!) As you might expect, it was a real pain, and I lost my internet connection; the firewall setting wouldn't let me into ANYTHING, even when I turned it off. I sorted it by 1) restoring to previous night's state, before new Norton. 2) uninstalling Norton completely (needed a fix from their website to do this, a friend got it for me) Windows 'Uninstall' program doesn't remove everything. 3) installing new version from scratch. Apparently its a known problem... but once correctly installed its fine. The firewall settings can be a problem with ANY website that uses cookies; after all, that's what its there for. You just get used to the messages asking if you want to allow access. I had AVG on my old PC but I wanted something with a firewall too, and Norton worked fine so I stuck with it.

Vicky, hi. the FIREWALL settings are very easy to set on NORTON, all it needs is to alter a slider to the recommended position and that does it. As with the privacy an parental control, just adjust the slider again to the recommended position. The worst problem is when you cant get on to a site because NORTON blocks the cookie for that site, then it becomes a big technical, but do it once and you can always do it, bit like sex really OOOPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSS sorry.
