Hi all I have found my Grandmother's birth index on 1837online. The entry is listed as Stebbens Ivy May vol 4a page 767 Maldon immediately under that entry is: Stebbens Walter Ernest vol 4a page 767 Maldon Does anyone know if this would indicate that they were twins? Could it just be a coincidence that another child was born in the same district at the same time with the same surname and listed in the same volume and page? |

My guess would be that they were twins Shirley ps if you get her birth cert I believe if she was one of twins then the time of birth is recorded, |

Sharon Not neccesarily, but possibly. As they are straight after each other in the listing I would say more than likely. Only way to prove it for sure is to get both Certificates. What year are we talking about? Joy |

Year is 1905. Maldon is not a very big district which is what is making me think that they were twins. T hanks for your help. Guess I am going to have to get both certificates ! Add them to the list I am currently making of certificates to send for when funds permit !!! |

hi sharon, i got a certificate from 1888 and it had time of birth on it, the registry office also put a note in saying he had a twin and gave me the details to order it. just order the one you want for now and see what they say. tracey. |

They are under each other on the listing because it is in alphabetical order. The fact they are on the same page means they were registered within a short period of time of each other but not necessarily on the same day. How about checking the parish register to see if they were baptised together/have same parents named? Heybridge parish registers are at the county recordsoffice in Chelmsford. |

Judith, thanks for that. I live in Leicestershire so it is not that easy to pop to Chelmsford! Hopefully will be visiting Heybridge after Christmas so will try and do that. ps How did you know it was Heybridge? |

Possible parents: James Stebbens abt 1868 Maldon, Essex, England Head Heybridge Essex Alice Stebbens abt 1874 Maldon, Essex, England Wife Heybridge Essex I can't see any other Stebbens in Maldon on 1901 census, so its likely your two babies had the same parents, but only the certs will prove this. nell |
