i also just pick a branch to follow at a whim. It might be that I've hit a brickwall (I haven't got much patience) or a conversation with someone sparks some interest again, or a contact with someone else. Just now I'm following my dads family. Apparently when I was younger I had contact with my great aunts, but I don't remember them. My dad hadn't seen one for over 20 years. I was recently given her address by another family member and wrote to her. She was really pleased and gave me her sisters address in America. My Great Aunt Peggy in USA is on e-mail and we now swap emails almost daily and have chatted a couple of times on MSN. Shes nearly 80 and I have definitely not met her. That why now I am looking at my dads lot again, as I have been given some fresh info. Just go with the flow, its a hobby that we all know will take years to complete fully, so pick whichever branch feels right at the time |

Nothing succeeds like success. I search the easy ones, or those likely to be found in lots of records. Because I live near Kew, men in the navy, or those involved in court cases are fun, because you can find out so much about their lives. On balance, I prefer to search those living in the country: there are less entries to plough through to find them. |

Hi All I just pick up wherever too. Never found anything interesting - just 100's of people!! Then just when I think I've found just about all of them - up pops another lot! Keeps me off the streets Elly |

I tend to pick up & drop branches at whim. Perhaps I give up too easily when I grind to a halt. But you can have fresh ideas if you leave it for a while. Just had a contact from someone about the person I was looking at 6 weeks ago, so I'm back on that branch. And its proving to be fascinating too! Worth the wait. |

I just do whoever takes my fancy, or whoever is likely to be listed in a record I can access, till I get stuck. I am researching both my mum's and dad's families and have got most of my gt gt gt gt grandparents now, but not all. I am also doing husband's lot. I just pick up and drop family branches at whim. Some people I have enough info to write a biography, others are just names and a couple of dates!!!! nell |

My brickwalls are my most interesting ancestors, one ancestor is being extremely elusive. |

If I find one with an interesting story I go down that path. At the moment I`m researching my great aunt although I never met her she had an good story to research -married twice to well off gentlemen , no kids, moved to USA. I`ve researched her 2nd hubby`s family too in order to write a wee story when I get everything together. It makes it a fascinating hobby-doesn`t it? Rosalyn |

I have hit a brickwall with several of my lot, and honestly can't decide which person to focus on next. How do you all choose who to dig into? George |
