For the last couple of weeks, every time I try to add a new member to my tree,it bleeps and a warning box appears telling me to add a place of birth, even when I have.So I can't add any new ancestors,ANY ADVICE?

I tried that! I even tried not putting in a place of birth,so that when it reminded me,I could add one,but it still does it.I also tried adding it from all the lists ie Yorkshire,Halifax etc

Hi, Use the 'report a problem' link at the bottom of this page. Cheers, Horatia

Simply altering a couple of details to my onsite tree drove me to distraction it was so slow and laborious, demanding details in boxes that I did not wish to complete. It is far simpler and more convenient to have an offline tree, which you then upload to the site. This also means that you have a spare copy of your tree:if GR blows up in a puff of smoke or you lose internet access, you still hae access to all your hard work. If you haven't any genealogy software on your computer, you can download PAF or Legacy for free from the internet and import your GR tree into it, then consider whether you want anything more sophisticated. Virtually all software packages are more sophisticated and easier to use than GR.

I reported the problem last week but I'll try again, and I'll try and download that tree-stuff off the internet-Thanks.And If that doesn't work I think I'll stick with tribalpages !!!

I thought I'd reply to meself incase anyone's having similar problems! I still can't add stuff, and GR didn't respond,But I just used the old tree programme in 'Other Useful Tools' and it works fine.

Hi I've had problems too, My tree is kept on PAF, problem arrises when I upload to Genes the boxes are not the same so people appear without places of birth or birth dates. The Genes database is too rigid. Sometimes I know an exact date of birth or christening date, others I only have a circa year based on a census age.... If I try to update the individuals on here it not only takes for ever, but also wants info I don't yet know So to anyone who finds my people on their hot matches without a place or date - Sorry guys, it's not me!!! I think I spoke too soon!! I've just added about 7 new people and now the old tree programme keeps asking for a date of birth, even though I've already added it and it's not even a box with a * next to it !!!!
