I wonder how many peoples relatives are languishing in official institutions on census night known only by their initials??? Was this common practice or did it depend on the master of each individual asylum? Michael (who actually did find an ancestor who died in the Bodmin Cornwall County Asylum, but much earlier than this!!)

Don't know about all asylums, but I do have a relative in Broadmoor who is listed by name in all censuses until 1901, when he is just given as initials. Fortunately he came from a small village and is the only person with those initials born in that village in 1901, so I know its him. nell
