i have 31 adams children born in stafford between 1901 and 1910..short of buying all birth certs is there any way i can find the birth mothers maiden name? i am looking for adams children born after 1900 until 1910 with the mother,s maiden name as henn. ilooked at 1837 online but mothers maiden name is not given..any sites that might be useful..thanks |

Mothers maiden name was not included in the indexes for the period you are looking at so unfortunately there is no way to find the maiden name without buying the certificate. Sam x |

thanx sam..that sounds expensive if i,m just guessing....lol however i see that families seem to pass brother,s sister,s etc names down in families so maybe picking out the most likley names will pay off in the long run |

Don't forget that you can include a checking fact - such as the mother's maiden name - which means you end up paying £3/£4 for a search-fee for each irrelevant cert, instead of £7 for a load of certs you don't want. Just be aware that they will be exact - so if there's any flexibility about the name, make sure you say so (e.g. Hen/Henn) otherwise you might miss out on a cert you would have wanted. Christine |

Only way would be to check your list taken from GRO index against baptism entries in parish registers, if you know exact location where they lived. |

Do you know what religious denomination they were? Just maybe they might have had all their children baptised in one church?? If you live in/near Staffordshire you could investigate what baptism records are held at the Country Record office. if not, then you might be able to hire out a film of baptism records from your local Latter Day Saints Family History Centre (abour £3 per film) for the most likely parish in Stafford. I would suggest trying the church where the couple were married (if that was local) or the church nearest to where their first child was born. It might take a few stabs at getting the right place, but has to be cheeper than getting lots of certs, some of which probably turn out not be your family!! Merry |

unfortunatley i live in scotland..the highlands so i cant be any further away i,m afraid..or this would be far easier for me...however i do have an address at tiscall road, st paul, stafford in 1901 census. parents married in stafford in 1895 and first child born Millicent J Adams,SEPT 1896 STAFFORD. Edith G Adams DEC 1898,stafford and Robert C Adams 1900,stafford..my grandmother was also born stafford 1909 so i presume their were children between 1901 and 1910.. |

i'd hoped that, by having more specific areas than the GRO Districts, this site might help you: http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/ Unfortunately, they don't seem to have transcribed births actually in Stafford, itself, although they do have marriages for Stafford (tho' I can't see your couple).
