Hi Pam Yes, I found that out about the two names from my old contact in Spain. It is her family in Spain I am trying to find details of. She came her in 1893 with my ggrandad and my grandad. They had two more children, three in under six years, then she died at the age of 24. She was known by my family name here, and that is the one on her death certificate. Ann

Okay, I didn´t realise that this was in Gibraltar. If she was Spanish or living in Spain she would have to use two surnames, first her father´s and then her mother´s- so she would be known as .xxxx Vazquez Diaz. Women don´t take the husband´s names when they marry, so she´d give the same two names for her son´s birth certificate and maybe somebody thought that the last name , Diaz, was the one they should write down. Does this seem a possible explanation? Pam

Hi Pam W I have the marriage certificate for my GGrandparents. The wedding took place in Gibraltar in 1891. The brides address at that time was Rodgers Road South, her Father is down as Michael Vazquez, her maiden name on the marriage cert. However, on my Grandads birth certificate in 1892, her maiden name is Diaz. I was told by my last contact in Spain that this is normal. Thanks for your suggestions and help. Ann

Unless you have the two surnames for each of them and the date of marriage and where it took place, you can´t get their marriage certificate - same with birth. If you´ve got all that information I can apply for the certificates for you. Where were they living and what dates are we talking about? If it was a very small village you might be lucky with the parish registers, but a large town without the precise area, not much luck I´m afraid. Pam

If you have their name and address, does that mean that you´ve got their daughter´s marriage certificate? What else do you want to find out? Pam

Hi , Can anybody give me any tips on searching for rellies in Spain. I have my Gt gt Grandads name and address of where they lived at the time of his daughters marriage (my Gt Gran) but that is all. Any help would be appreciated. Ann
