Does anyone know how complete the records on FreeBMD and Ancestry are for 1900 – 1911’ish. I know if I check the ‘charts’ on FreeBMD it shows them as being pretty complete, but are they still being transcribed? I only ask because I have ‘lost’ three brothers and a sister from one family and can find ‘hide nor hair’ of them, as my mother would have said. I have EDWARD BUTT (my grandfather) born Shoreditch June 1901 and SIDNEY REDVERS BUTT born 1904 Shoreditch, but am missing the following, who should be between 1905 and approx 1912: ALBERT BUTT he went on the marry an Agnes, have 2 children and be killed in WW2, she re-married but the children kept their surname. HERBERT BUTT married a ‘Cissie’ had three children, Joan, Patsy & Christopher – I know nothing else about him (although Herbert was his fathers brothers christian name) ARTHUR BUTT known as ‘Titch” due to his lack of stature – married Mary Holden, had 2 children Barbara and Peter. Barbara is my godmother and confirmed the order of the ‘brothers and sisters’ to me at the weekend. Barbara remembers stories from her father of him being ‘dragged up’ by his brothers because their mother was not around. ADA BUTT the youngest and only girl, Barbara believes she was one of a twin, the other being either stillborn or dying shortly after, and her mother dying either at the time or shortly after as well. (I can’t find a death ref for the mother ADA FLORENCE BUTT at the moment either). Ada (Jnr.) married Archibald Palmer in approx 1961, they moved to Hove, Sussex and several years later ‘Archie’ committed suicide by shooting himself on the church steps. Have I any other choice other than to trawl quarter by quarter through 1837 to find these entries, or should I persevere and try FreeBMD again – if they’re not on there is it likely I’ll find them on 1837 (I’ve also tried familyrelatives.org and had no luck on there either)? Sorry for wittering on, I came back from a meeting with my godmother (first time I’d seen her in 20 years) at the weekend with lots of new info, thinking I now had enough to track them all down and now I can’t find any of them – disappointed is not the word!!!!!!!!! Any ideas gratefully received. Looby

Yes, that puzzles me too, all the family are from that area and I have managed to find the addresses for them and the previous three generations and 'mapped' them and they are all (the one's I can find!) within about a 2/3 or a mile radius, so they didn't believe in moving!! I think I'll have to put him down to experince for the minute and come back to him later. Thanks again Trudy

Thanks Sammy, I tried that again, I think I might have to go back to my godmother once I find his marriage and the kids births. Looby
