I agree, at first glance, they do look exactly like dates don't they? I will be more careful in future how I put references down. Liz

That had thrown me! Thanks for clarifying things Liz. I'll order Harry's cert to start with as I'd like to know more of what happened in the accident. Andy x

'The dates are a great find'... Errrmmm, forgive me if I have misunderstood your last post, but I will clarify the references: PEACE Harry 3 Sept 1953 Leeds 2c 223 The 3 is his age, not the date, and Sept is the quarter in 1953 that the death was registered - ie Jul/Aug/Sept. 2c is volume number, 223 is page. These are the references you will need when ordering the cert from the GRO. Likewise, for Marie, 1 Mar means she was 1 year old, and the death was registered in the Jan/Feb/Mar quarter of 1949. The exact date of death will be on the certificate. Apologies if I have either misled or misunderstood you. Liz

Thanks all, The dates are a great find, thank you. Harry Peace was tragically killed in a road accident and I am interested in researching exactly what happened etc. Anybody know how I might find any old coroners reports etc??

You might consider if they are worth it. They will give you name of informant, cause of death and date but not much else. Bob

PEACE Marie 1 Mar 1949 Leeds 2c 445 Use the references to order the death certificates from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp at a cost of £7 each. Liz x

depends how good you are at looking! The thing is, you need to look at various quarters of the years and each quarter costs to look at , so it could be quite costly unless you can be more specific

I haven't subscribed to it. Would I find the info easily on there?
