Thanks, Annabel. I will certainly look out the books that you recommended. One of the things that I like best about family research is finding out how ordinary people lived day-to-day. I think that it is so much more interesting than the history books that just gives you a load of stuff about kings and queens and battles. My son and his wife are emigrating to Perth at the end of this month, so I should be spending quite a bit of time there in the future!!! |

Hi Annabel, thankyou for the kind offer! I don't know if your disc covers Cogg[e]s. Emma Cantwell was christened in Coggs in 1829. I am interested in the marriage of her parents - Richard Cantwell and Sarah. They were both born c1806 so presumably married c1825-1830. If you were also able to find Richard & Sarah's baptisms then that would be fantastic! I don't know that any of these happened in Coggs - if not, perhaps you could try Witney itself?? Many thanks, William |

Hi Annabel - Absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the Witney transcripts, but if you want to read about what life was really like in the North Oxfordshire area in the 1870s/80s can I recommend that you read 'Lark Rise to Candleford' by Flora Thompson. I have just finished reading it for the second time. It is an autobiographical account of a small girl growing up in a tiny Oxfordshire village at the time, and her move as a teenager to the neighbouring market town. Absolutely fascinating reading. |
