It's called Ancestors and you can buy it at the FRC and Kew bookshops, but its also stocked at WH Smiths. I quite like it, but I only buy issues if they have articles I'm interested in. More info here www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/shop/ancestors.htm?source=ddmenu_shop2 nell

I have been subscribing to 'Ancestors' for about 3 years and I find that as far as I am concerned that it is the best of all magazines, but having said that I do think it depends how far into the research side of Family History that you have managed to get. I am very much into research and always find that each magazine has many articles of interest for me. The last few months there have been articles on Trafalgar and Nelson, Press Gangs, Three Centuries of Catholic Persecution, Guy Fawkes, Insurance Records and Manorial Records. The Articles are usually aimed at the records that the TNA have, and obviously informs the reader as to the accessibility of so many records at this valuable asset of ours. There was a time when it only came out every 2 months and you could only get it from the National Archives or by subscription, but now you can purchase through newsagents like Smiths each month. The articles are really aimed at more experienced Family Historians, and are in depth usually of 6/7 pages long. There are no gimmicky CD's with the magazine which suits me, but this may not suit others. Janet

Thanks people, I guess Im not as academic as some researchers on here, who I hold in total awe and when I bought a copy of Norfolk Roots yesterday I felt happy and comfortable with it. It is for beginners plus I guess and of course has so much local info that I even find names of my ancestors in articles. I think my sub will be with them this year!

Hi Babs, I live in Norfolk, so I get it from my little local corner shop! Its £3.99 and comes out every two months. Got lots of local stuff in it and a free disc every month. This month its Whites History Gazetteer and Directory of Norfolk 1864. They have a website and forum at www(.)norfolkroots24(.)co(.)uk

Babs, Ive just had a look and emailed them. My sister offered to buy me a years sub for my christmas present and I see that they only seem to offer a mag at a time and its £5 with postage. Ive sort of complained that all other mags are yearly subs with a discount. Will let you know what they say.
