How do I find where people went after 1901????

The local Slater's/Kelly's directory's in the relevent County Records Office might be a good place to start - work forward from 1901 at their known address and see how long they feature there for and when they disappear - the directories are usually printed every two years (though some holdings are patchy). They helped me narrow down the death of my great-grandfather - he was listed in 1919 at his longtime address, but only his widow was listed in the 1926 book. Once I had narrowed it down that far it was relatively easy finding his death in the GRO index. Doesn't work for everyone though, as plenty of people who should be in the directories aren't, but they're always worth checking - otherwise I'd have wasted ages looking for a death in the wrong decade.

I know where my relatives were in 1901. I want to know where they were in 1911??? Obviously I cannot look at a census. Anyone any ideas?? I also want to know the exact dates they emigrated to NZ ...anyone any experienc of finding this type of information. Clues as to where I might look would be gratefully accepted. Thanks Jane
