Yes, we have the 1851 that we have craved for for so long and now I keep thinking when will the 1841 be online. Trouble is so many kind souls on here have helped look up 1851 entries for me that its not the exciting event I had imagined.

Heather No, once you've found the blighters on 1851 (and goodness knows it taxes your imagination!) you want to answer further questions by getting to 1841. I've just gone through all the Matthews born or living in Whichford 1851-1901 and NEED to get back 10 more years to work out how the older ones are connected to eachother! I've now got to repeat the exercise looking for Mathews. I'm shattered! nell

Lyn Have you heard what an awful state the 1911 is in? It's not nicely copied onto enumerators' forms, its just individual households on separate bits of paper, its smelly, damp and there don't seem to be any plans to index or microfilm it. Making it available in 2012 means just that - if you want to go through it at the National Archives, you can. It doesn't mean that the govt have to make it easy to search or use. nell

Does anyone know why the 1911 is in such a mess? I mean the older ones musn't have been so bad so why is this one. Gill

Maybe the Census staff were too busy fighting WW1 and then preparing for the 1921 census to tidy things up? Roger

I need census returns for 1741-1801 now!!!!!!!! Then I might be able to sort out my rellies who belonged to an as yet unheard of religious denomination who didn't do baptisms, marriages or burials....presume their children were NOT beamed in from outer space, presume they believed in ''free love'' and ''common law relationships'' but what did they do with their loved ones when they passed away??? Beats me? Think I'll email Ancestry and ask them when the 1761 will be out LOL!! Merry

I always want more. A friend has given up asking if I've 'finished' my family history yet. So much to do, so little time. What I'd like is a complete index of all manorial documents, plus digital images online. Then I might be able to find those nonconformist ancestors who slip out of parish records. This sounds a complete pipedream, but then we laughed at the idea of all census images being digitised.

I was unexcited too. I suppose we are getting to the point where there is not much to look froward to and the realisation that far too many questions will be left unanswered. Pippa
