MARRIAGE SEARCHES

I would like advice on marriage searches. I'm finding one spouse but cannot cross-reference. From 1912 onwards the details of the spouse is given, before that you only have the one. Most of my marriage searches are before 1912. Any Tips - I would be happy to receive them.

Hi Lorraine Are you finding them on FreeBMD? If so, click on the page number and this will list the other people on the page - usually two males and two females as there are usually 2 marriages per page. This doesn't tell you who married who out of the four, but if you can find either of the two males on a subsequent census, you may be able to work it out. If they are not on FreeBMD (and remember that is incomplete), or if you can't determine who married who from the census, then unfortunately the only way to find the spouse is to buy the certificate.
