Not sure where Arnold is either, but Sheffield I know is close. I guess I'll have to break down and purchase the marriage cert. Thanks all for your help. hugz, Gail |

The only other way I can suggest of verifying you get the right family is to talk to your parent (if this is possible), and try to get names of aunts and uncles, and any details they remember from childhood about what sort of work they did etc etc... The family in Arnold is a possibility, but then they could equally have come from Sheffield. |

The only Forrester family in Nottingham I could find were all born and live in Arnold ( don't know the area ) They have 9 children born 1882-1899...As mentioned before to find them on 1901 and know for certain they are yours, the marriage cert of you g/father will give you his fathers name as a checking point ! That was only with your spelling - I can imagine it would get mis-transcribed. ESta |

You say he was married in 1922 - do you have the marriage certificate? Will give his father's name. If you haven't got it, it might be easier to find than the birth, (because you have 2 names) just to get you started off on the right track. And then, if you send for the FORRISTER certificate, you will know if the fathers names match that its likely to be correct. Without some other way of checking you might never know for sure. |

Hello Nell, Thanks for that. I never thought that they may not have been there that night (blonde moment LOL). Gail |

The census will show where they were on census night. They may have been staying elsewhere - and do you have any reason for believing them to be in Worksop, other than that is where William was born? I have a family in 1881 who were in Greenwich on census night, but had moved by June to East Molesey where their son was born. Its also very likely they are mistranscribed. About 65% of my relatives on 1901 weren't transcribed correctly. nell |

No Sam there aren't any FORRESTERS in Worksop on the census. I don't know who his family were. I have found a Pheobe FORESTER that may be a lead (or a coincidence).... Gail |

Gail, His family WILL be on the census but as you don't give their names, we can't look for them! Sam x |

Thanks Sam and Susan I had checked FreeBMD too. I KNOW that's where he was born. There is a William Forrister born in April so maybe that's him spelled wrong. It's strange that his family isn't on the census though. Can't see a family moving when mother is so far along. I guess I'll have to order his death and marriage certs. This family tree business gets expensive LOL Gail |

Hi The latest census available is 1901, so your grandfather won't appear on this unless he was born in the first quarter. I have checked freeBMD and Ancestry and there isn't a birth registration for William Forrester anywhere in Notts. Sam x |

Hello, Can anyone out there do an Ancestry search for me please. I am looking for my Grandfather William FORRESTER? Born 1901 in Worksop Notts. Married Sarah Haigh 1922. Died 1975. Also if the family is on a census? Thanks for your help. Gail |
