on the census for one of my relatives is says she was an inmate?she was about 74 at the time |

it can mean inmate of workhouse or prison or hospital. What census was it on? Regards ellen |

i think it was the 1901 census or the 1881 |

Baby, on the far left column of the census record it should show the address or name of the institution - it may help you work out if it is a prison or hospital etc. What was her name? Sarah |

If it was 1881 the address will be on her entry sheet. If its 1901 you may have to view the census pages before hers to see which institution she was an inmate of. nell |

Her name was Frances Hitch aged 74 in 1881 it says inmate generaly of W house it was on the 1881 census |
