I think it would be worth getting the marriage cert as this would give you her father's details which would help you to pinpoint them on earlier census records (hopefully!). Name: Coulbeck, Eliza Record Type: Marriages Quarter: December Year: 1897 District: Thanet County: Kent Volume: 2a Page: 1965 Spouse: TAYLOR, Henry Thomas Merry

Do you have her marriage cert? If you do, have you been able to trace her in 1891/1881 with her parents (to establish birthplace). What was her father's name and occupation? I see her name is indexed as Coulbeck on the marriage index. Is this the wrong spelling? Merry

There was a The County of London Manor Asylum in Epsom, Surrey which is most likely the place you mean. You might want to get someone to send you the full info on this record on Ancestry 1901 Census section E T b abt 1880 residing in Surrey The above is a female and a patient, George

Hi All A while ago i was told that my maternal gg grandmother was in an asylum after seeing her husband dead body he apparently died in horrfic way, when i searched the 1901 census searching for my gg grandmother her daughter my ggrandmother, who was supposley living with her grandparents at the time, what i found is that it was true she was living with her grandparents and aunts and uncles but her father was still alive living with them, Married but there was no sign of his wife at all. my ggrandmother apprentley always believed that her grandparents where her parents and that her aunts and uncles where her siblings, although she was an only child and this is what my family got told until a few years ago. now i have know clue where to go with this and is starting to make me think that there was some kind of scandal? i was just wondering if there are and asylum records that i could search through or does anyone have any idea if there are any more records i could search. any help will be appreicated, Hayley
