I agree you might otherwise have put a child with the wrong mother and reseached a completely different tree. My great grandmother's morther died in Childbirth.The father remarried shortly after, but this was not found out until I got her birth cert, and is not mentioned on the 1881 census, as she was daughter of the head (father)but step daughter of the wife. Make sure you take note of everything stated on the census. I found that one of my distant granparents was actually married before he married my grandmother and his first wife died. If that hadnt of happened i wouldnt be here now, so its fairly significant!
