Lesley I would believe Scotlands People it is the official government web site. Have you tried slightly different spellings because the family search site was transcribed from Parish registers and there could be a slight difference in the spelling. If you post some names I will take a look. Georgina. |

Thank Georgina Annie Scott b 1888 canonbie Dumfriesshire F George Scott mother Isabella Armstrong To be honset I can't find this on th IGI but she appears on the 1891 Census being 3 Living at Kirkton nr Hawick Roxburghshire . Her sister Janet who was seven in 1891 was born at Bogg Cottage Canonbie in 1883. Thier daughter Ann b 1871 died at bogg cott dec 1886 I have done many searches and spent a lot of money and have comeup with ziltch. George Scott B 27th dec 1904 Illigitamate Mother Elizabeth Scott this one is definatley correct as an aunt has the origional Cert. The reason I asked the question in the first place was that I was doing a lookup for somone who had found a marriage on IGI and when I looked on scotlands people I couldn't find it. I feel like Iv'e written a novel here sorry! Lesley |

I don't think their births would be on the IGI as they would come under civil registration rather than old parochial records, if that's what you're looking for - I'm not really clear what your question is! And is it their mother who died, rather than their daughter?? Kate. |

The origional question was does anyone else know for certain that an ancester was born on a particlar day in a particular parish and can't find it on Scotlands people. Lesley |

I think it is more likely that an 'Old Parochial Register' entry would be missing from Scotland's People than a civil registration entry. Unfortunately I don't have any Scotland's People credits at the moment so I can't look on there. If you find an IGI entry 'record submitted by a member of the LDS church' then we don't really know where they got the information from, so it could just be guesswork; if it is 'extracted from local records' it is more likely to be accurate but still could be mistranscribed. There are certainly differences in transcription between Scotland's People and the IGI. If you can't find the birth on Scotland's People using the criteria you mention, try leaving out different bits of it on the search, for example, leave out mother's name (perhaps Isabella was her stepmother?) and so on, also try to see if it was registered under the mother's maiden name in case the parents weren't actually married before the birth (unless you have already found their marriage!). Maybe somebody who has some Scotland's People credits can help. One thing that really annoys me about that site is that you can't even do a free search when you have no credits or they have expired! Kate. |

I Just want to say I DON,T want anyone to use any credits on Scotlands People for this request It is expensive enough and i agree about not being able to do free searchs etc, but when you can't get to Ediburgh what do you do. I am really just asking for thoughts and advice. Thankyou to every one for your replies. Lesley |

Hi Lesley I have just looked on scotlands people for George & Isabella's marriage (not enough credits to look at the certificate). They were married in 1869 in Canonbie, Dumfries. This entry is on the IGI they married on 19/2/1869. Georgina. |
