Thank you for your advise. I did what you said Michael, I searched in 1837 and it did take a while, searched from 1966 - 1981. Obviously this is not the my husbands birth mother, maybe it is not meant to be. |

Could you compare other electoral rolls for the same address- ones before & ones after? This might indicate children, new partner, or even a new husband. Good luck! Jay |

Thanks for that Merry, at least that will scale the search down a bit. |

Don't forget, her children would have to be over 18 to be on the electoral roll. Merry |

I think I have found Janet off the Electrol Roll, listed on there was several people, with the same surname, which I hope are her children. But I wanted to make sure. My husband is the child that was adopted. I am with 1837 but I wanted to know if there was an easier way. |

1837online don't have subscriptions, it's just pay per view so it would be too much to expect someone else to search so many years for you. However you can go to any large library or record office and search the births, marriages and deaths free on microfishe. With no idea of a date, this would be the best way to do it. I think I'd start looking for another marriage for her before looking for more children, as you won't really know what name she might register further children in. Kath. x |

I'd probably concentrate on this Janet Lilian Blood if I were you. Is she still alive? Did she marry again? If she's not alive and didn't marry again then I'd try looking for a Death Certificate for her. If you're really lucky, you'll find a previously unknown son or daughter listed on the certificate as the informant. Still, you're going to have to pay to search the indexes at 1837online if you really want to find anything worthwhile, and it won't come cheap - you'll have to look at the relevent yearly indexes for the maiden name of both 'Blood' and 'Wheeldon'. The child you mention born in 1964 was obviously illegitimate why is why he's registered as a 'Wheeldon' and not under his father's name. Have you tried getting the birth certificate or adoption papers to see if the father is named and known and whether she might have married the father at a later date and took his name then along with any subsequent children. 'Wheeldon' is not a common name anyway, so maybe you should start searching the marriage indexes from 1964 forward and see if a 'Janet Wheeldon' ever married anybody else anywhere in the country. Again, you'll probably have to search a ten year period or more and might not find anything. Some kind sole on these pages might have an 1837 subscription and do a search of these ten years or more for you just on the off-chance, but frankly this is something its best that you pay for yourself. If it's not a close blood relative, then my advice is not to bother. You'll have to be prepared to put in a lot of time, effort and money - especially the latter, for potentially very little reward. The thing is I do not know if she went on to have any more children. Her name is Janet Lilian Blood born 1942, married William Wheeldon and had Maurice in 1959. She split from husband and the child stayed with him. She had another child in 1964 and named him Thomas Wheeldon but he was not Williams child. She had him adopted. |

The way I see it, you'll need to pay £5 for 50 credits at 1837online and search through the indexes for the years you THINK are the best options according to the information you have to hand. It'll cost you one credit to view each quarter of a given year, so 50 credits should be more than enough to search a ten year radius for any suspected chidren. If you know the local area she lived in and her maiden name it will rule out loads of options immediately, even if you have a common name like Smith. As a personal example I managed to search a group of years in the late 1930s and early 1940's for a brother of my dad's that we knew died very young. I just started at my best guess for the earliest he could have been born in 1937 after their parents married and worked forward a year at a time ruling out all those children with the same surname whose mother's maiden name was incorrect and who weren't born in Manchester. I found him no problem - the same with his death just ten months later. If you want to try it on the cheap, freebmb.rootsweb.com have the same GRO index lists as 1837online but they're not complete and are no good at all past the year 1911 - and not 100% fool-proof before that. Once you have some likely suspects with the correct maiden name and/or part of the country then it's just a matter of forking out £7 for a copy of the birth certificate from gro.gov.uk to see if your theory is right. This only works for England and Wales though. Scotland and Ireland are different animals entirely. Michael |

Depends on when and where. Can you give any names or the years you would need to look at? Kath. x |
