Hi Louise I found some baptisms for one family that had me very confused. They had several children before having any baptised then began with a baby, a month later another child, seven months later another one then a year later 4 together ages ranging from a baby to an 8 year old. Two years later another and then another 2 months after that and these two were the eldest children in the family. I was imagining twins and triplets, lol. Heather |

Louise......Sounds very possible indeed! Nell - there are some funny things about - I have rellies who were twins and were born after they had been baptised!! The Parish Register has their baptism recorded and I have their birth certs showing they were apparently born about 6 weeks after the baptism date......At first I assumed that the baptism date was wrong, but the following month one of the twins died and his age is in the burial reg and fits with him being born before the baptism (lol) then we have the 1841 census and the remaining twin also is aged to have been born before the baptism. As these were the first children born to this family after the start of civil registration, I guess they lied to the registrar about the date of birth in order not to pay the fine, having forgotten about registration!!!! The registration took place five weeks after the ''official'' date of birth. Merry |

It's quite possible the dates are incorrect. I have a burial record of twin boys, one of whom is either the wrong age or his burial date is wrong, but it isn't clear which. nell |

Apart from the death of baby Edward I see there is also a death of an adult Edward aged 30 before 1891 and in West Derby........Assuming (as I haven't looked) that your Edward, the husband, is still alive in 1891, I wonder if this other Edward is the father of baby Edward who died?? It wouldn't take much for him also to have a wife Mary Ann and live in the same area with the same job! have you looked for a young widow named Mary Ann Tyrer in 1891?? I would look, but I'm not clear which town we are in????!!!! Update - Oh, West Derby, Liverpool! Silly me! I've looked, but cannot see a candidate........Possibly a young widow might have remarried quickly? Merry |

I am a dope!! I only looked at the date at the one end!! If the dates are correct (IF!!) then I would doubt they are bro and sister, but mistakes do happen! Have you looked for any other couples in the area with the same names? Also it has been known for a bap to be written down with completely the wrong parents!!!! Merry |

He might have been born early, so he may have died because of that. |

yes merry in West Derby - but the baptism entry say Kate was born 29 Apr 1883 & Edward 29 Oct 1883 - which leaves, at the most, 6 months between them |

Is all this happening in West derby District?? If yes, I see there is a birth reg for Kate in Q2 1883 and another for Edward Q4 the same year. You are right, it is quite tight, but Kate could have been born at the end of Feb 1883 and still been reg in Q2. That leaves room for a speedy conception and the birth of Edward in Dec. JUST!! The only way to be certain would be to get the birth certs.... :O(( Merry |

Christened Name Parents Surname Father’s Occupation Address Born 10 sept 1883 Kate Edward & Mary Ann Tyrer Carter Corlett St 29 April 1883 1 Feb 1884 Edward Edward & Mary Ann Tyrer Carter Oliver St 29 Oct 1883 baby Edward doesn't appear on the 1891 census( where as Kate does) & I've found a possible death on FreeBMD - but he was coming up to being a year old) Also on http://www.toxteth.net/maps/liverpool/lpool0e.htm it shows that Oliver St & Corlett St are next to each other (and the family eventually settled in Holden Street by 1886) I'm just concered that there not that many months between the two children - do you think it's the same family - or just a conidence? |
