My mum told me all she could about her dad Angus's family, but Grandad was old and ill when I knew him, and rather embittered. He had lost contact with his brothers and sisters, but kept in touch with his Aunt Chat. She was married to Uncle Will Davison, and lived in Sandgate, Hythe, Kent. My mum remembers her very well and I have a pic of her and Uncle Will. She looks very kind and affectionate. But I couldn't find out who she was for ages. Mum didn't know if she had been a sister of Angus' mum or his dad. Then I discovered that my grandfather Angus' mother Ellen Purvey had a stepsister called Charity, who was 10 years younger than Ellen. I found her mistranscribed on the 1901 census as Chanty (!) working as a cook in Chelsea. Tonight, whilst I was going through the Purvey lot again, I wondered if her marriage had been included on the updated Freebmd and it has - in Chelsea, to William Davison, which clinches her as the right person. nell

Forget blinky Callaghan McCarthy and his son Dennis/James McCarthy/Carter - they are in husband's tree anyway! I've found the marriage of my mum's Aunt Chat!
