someone will know! My G Grandmother CHARMAN was a charwoman - thats fine. Her father surname also CHARMAN Was a CharMONGER. OK, To MONGER is to sell or trade, but what would a CHARMONGER have sold or traded in please Jess x

Not quite the same, but my list of old trades has a charman down, not as a male charwoman, but as another name for a carrier - ie white van man of the Victorian age..... Merry

My initial thought was a seller of charcoal - collects it from the burners and sells it in the town. Then I thought maybe he ran a troupe of charwomen. Then I decided Merry's probably right!!!! maggie

His is the brother of my main line charman - the only interesting one amongst them and areally an insignificant player! why couldn't he be the AG lab and his brother the cheesemonger - second thoughts, as you were , I HATE cheese with vengance!
