Thanks Merry. Don't have the first marridge cert, someone found it for me on some parish records they had. It just say Smith, James age ; 24 marridge Wife;Elizabeth Taylor age :18 Marridge date: 16 June 1851 recorded in:Bucknall, Staffordshire Husbands father:James Smith Wifes father Robert Taylor source FHL film 1278827dares:1844-1853 Just found on staffs BMD the same marridge recorded in Bagnal. The two places are usually linked as Bucknall cum Bagnal. Gill

Well that Eliza Taylor I listed at the start in Stoke upon Trent may well be in Bucknall and she was born in the right place! There are no separate listings for Bucknall in 1851. So I would say that should be her. What was your James occupation on the marriage cert? Merry

GillfromStaffs Report 10 Oct 2005 14:31

I don't have James on any other census, he dies sometime in the 1850s. Elizabeth the widow marries my 2xgrtgrandad Enoch Shenton in 1863. Cannot find a match for Elizabeth on 1861 either. On 1871 census it says Elizabeth was born in Hanley. Both her marridges are in Buchnall that's why ican't understand why i can't find her on the census in Buchnall. Gill

The one in Tipton is a butcher. Have you found the same couple on a later census?? Where did they say they were born? Merry

Sorry Gill - everytime I try to search for their names on the 1851 census, Ancestry just keeps coming up with the 1861 census. Don't know why. Kath. x

Is there anybody out there with 20/20 vision.James Smith aged 24 marries Elizabeth Taylor 18 16th june 1851 recorded at Bucknall Staffs. Census i believe was taken end of march 1851.Tried to find Elizabeth and James on census, the only match i can find is in Tipton Staffs but very poor image they are living as husband and wife. Can someone look for Jameses employment and see what you think it says. If anybody has second sight i would like to know what the blazes they were doing there. lol because they shouldn't be. Thank's Gill
