Looking for anyone who might have this lady in their tree. She is cousin of my grandfather Edwin Sharkey. Didn't have any luck in the trying to find section. This is the only information I have: Her mother's maiden name was Sharkey. Rose born possibly in Lancashire between 1875-1885. Lived in Dublin (near the quays) with husband Mr Hollings around 1904-1907. Thanks Rose

Have you tried to find Rose on 1881 census to narrow down whether or not she was born before/after that date? Have you looked for a McArdle/Sharkey marriage? Have you tried to find her 1901 to see whether or not she was still in England? nell

Helen, I have not been able to find a McArdle/Sharkey marriage. Since I don't know the first names of her parents I cannot determine which census record would be correct. The information I have is sketchy. In my grandmother's memoirs she tells that she met 2 sisters of my great grandfather Richard Sharkey, a Mrs Mulholland and Mrs McArdle. No first names. Both were married and lived in England but where was not stated. I don't know whether these ladies were older or younger than my great grandfather who was born about 1842 in Ashton under Lyme. Later she says that my grandfather, Edwin Sharkey( b 1879 in Birminham) went to visit with his cousin, Rose Hollings nee McArdle in Dublin around 1904. I am at a dead end with the Sharkey's. I was hoping someone would recognize the name and have more information about her which would help me track down more of my great grandfather's family. Rose

Hi Merry, Yes, Rose and Edwin would have been 1st cousins. I have all the info about Richard you showed on your reply. On Richard's marriage cert it shows his Father's name is Francis a stone mason. According to the family history, Francis is from French Park Roscommon. What I don't know is Richard's mother's name or any names of his siblings. The Lancashire/Cheshire BMD people said that many birth records from 1837-1842 are unreadable or missing and could not locate a birth record for Richard. Actually, I need to see he has 2 sisters. One that married a Mulholland and one who married a McArdle. Rose McArdle Hollings is the only name of the extended family member I have to work with. Thanks Rose

Thanks Merry, This might be the break I've been looking for. I agree they were born much later than Richard and Mary but maybe their father married twice. Although, on my grandmother's side, her father (the youngest of 16) was born 18 years after his eldest child. Same situation with my grandmother's family. The youngest of 13 was born 21 years after the oldest. In both instances, there were no second marriages. So, I guess it's possible for the Sharkey's as well. By the way, Lancashire is slow in getting their records on line. Not able to find a marriage record for Henry Mulholland and Mary Sharkey. I'll let you know if it pans out. Rose

Hi again, Well, turns out that James has the wrong occupation. Richard's father was a stone mason. James could have been Richard's uncle. Or, it could be another case of my grandmother getting names mixed up. I have found she has been way off base with some of the names in her own family mentioned in her memoirs including her grandmother's maiden name. She had it confused with her great aunts married name. I have to excuse her though because she was 68 when she decided to write all this down. If you happen to run across anything else, let me know. You can email me directly. Thanks again, Rose
