What a pity I didn't know that before!!! I had to delete my whole tree and start again from scratch because like you it wouldn't let me delete a rellie that I had put in (married to his father, - twice!!!) Good tip

This morning I clicked on 'Add partner' intead of editing (Mother) and gave someone two wives of the same name. The extra one would not delete. The 'Linked to more than 1 person' message came up. Obviously the system could not tell which one was connected to one name and which to multiple names. So: I changed the christian name on the unwanted one to 'Duplicated'. That gave them seperate identities. I could then delete the 'Duplicate' one.
